Lord Arthur Saviles Crime was first published by Oscar Wilde in 1891 as
a short story. This was before the mid 1890s when he had a very successful run with his plays Lady Windemere's Fan, An Ideal Husband, A Woman of No Importance and The Importance of Being Earnest. It is interesting then that Lord Arthur contains reference to characters that appear in these later stories. Perhaps Oscar was one of the earliest Where's Wally enthusiasts and liked to have some hidden gems for his audience to find! In this adaptation by Constance Cox, she has added further references and even a line or two directly from other Wilde stories and plays. So make sure you have your super spotting eyes ready when you come to see Lord Arthur and see just how many hidden gems you can find! |
