Q & A with Nick

5/8/2013

In the middle of our busy season of Hotel Sorrento, Nick who plays the role of Edwin took some time out to answer a couple of questions for us. Thanks Nick!
__________________________________________

How long have you been a part of CPP? 13 years.

What is your favourite role/show you have been in with us during this time? Over the River and Through The Woods where I played the role of Nick and Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime where I played the role of Lord Arthur.

What drew you to audition for the play Hotel Sorrento? I found Edwin an interesting character – being very much the fish out of water at Sorrento!

If your character could meet a celebrity on the beach - who would you choose? Keats, Blake, Eliot, Shelley, Wordsworth, Byron... Any of the acclaimed British writers!

What has been your favourite part of the rehearsal season/set build so far? It’s always good fun to share the journey with such a wonderful group of people and to work with people for the first or fifteenth time! Sharing a stage with my beautiful wife is always fun too!

There are still some great seats available although they are selling out fast. You won't want to miss this one! Book your tickets now by clicking here.

The reviews are in....

5/6/2013

"Wonderful night of drama, humour and melancholy!"

"...Thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing & thought provoking play and the strong
and clever performances from the experienced and amazing cast."

"I didn't want it to end! The entire cast of 8 did a brilliant job with a great Aussie show"

"Recommend anyone who has not yet got tickets get on line asap....."

This is just some of the feedback we have received from our first weekend of performances and they're right - it is a great show. It is a story about expatriatism, our perception of home and the tensions that exist between those who've left and those who've stayed behind. It is also about the responsibilities of family obligations and national ties and the rights to individuality within a clan and a country. But of course it is dotted with Australian humour along the way.

There are only 4 shows left - tomorrow night - Tuesday 7th of May, Friday the 10th and two on Saturday the 11th - a matinee at 2pm and evening performance at 8pm - and there are still great seats available for all four performances!

As suggested by our audience "If you don't already have tickets please make sure you organise them to see this!" so click here to organise your tickets pronto!

"Where in Melbourne can you get such fantastic entertainment for $20?"

Meet Andrea....

5/2/2013

Andrea has been involved with Croydon Parish Players for 13 years and in that time has been part of many shows both on and off the stage. Her favourite show with us during that time was Bye Bye Birdie where she got to drool all
over her husband  who played the role of Conrad Birdie, the teenage heart throb.

In Hotel Sorrento Andrea plays the role of the third sister - Pippa - who returns home from the USA. And what drew Andrea to audition for Hotel Sorrento? In her words "I found it easy to connect with the Aussie side of the play and it would be my first chance to play a character that was exactly my age!" (Always a bonus not having to age up or age down).

Andrea has really enjoyed this season and is looking forward to presenting her work (along with the rest of the casts work) to you from opening night - which is tomorrow!

Some highlights for her of the season thus far have been ageing the Jetty planks (this gave her a sense of accomplishment), getting to yell and cry at people without feeling guilty (as this is on stage) and having enough lines to really build a clear idea of Pippa's character - that in itself has been a real joy.

So if Pippa could meet any celebrity down on the beach who would she choose? Andrea's thoughts is one of the Self-Help writers from the 1990s as Pippa has definitely read a few of these books! John Gray who wrote "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" would have been the one hot off the press, so perhaps him.

Come and see all Andrea's hard work pay off! If you haven't organised your tickets yet please click here to do so.

It's going to be a great show and we look forward to seeing you there!

The book writer.... Meg

5/1/2013

The role of Meg is played by our very own Jenn W who has been involved with Croydon Parish Players for 24 years!

Over that time she has been involved in many shows with us both Musical and Play alike and both on and off the stage. So when asked what her favourite role / show was during that time she found it very difficult to answer, however playing Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest is towards the top of that list.

What drew Jenn to audition for Hotel Sorrento? (Which opens in two more sleeps!). Believe it or not Jenn has never been in an Australian Play! So it was this along with the depth of the character Meg and the great story line.

Jenn is enjoying the season immensely and there are many aspects she has enjoying about the show! Sharing the stage for the first time with Ian (even though we don’t talk to each other) and Meredith; Arguing with her brother Colin on stage! And playing opposite her husband. She's also really enjoyed having Andrea and Anne as sisters (even though they’re "really mean" to her. (Well you can understand why... she wrote the tell all book!)

So if Meg could meet a celebrity on the beach, who does Jenn think that would be? Shakespeare...?? Hmmmm no.... most probably Helen Garner.

Now the most important question - do you have your tickets yet? As mentioned the show opens in two days! If you haven't organised yours as yet, please click here to do so now - there are still great seats available, especially for the second half of the shows.

We look forward to seeing you there!

4 sleeps and counting....
